A&L Productions Goals & Objectives

The Goals and Objectives represent strategic areas of focus in providing various levels of service and support to college constituents. The goals articulate the outcomes A&L Productions would like to achieve and answer the question, “What will constitute ongoing success?” The achievement of each goal will move the unit toward realization of its envisioned future. The goals are not necessarily identified in a priority order.


Goal Area: College Level

Goal Statement: A&L Productions provides technical, support, and staffing services to the College of Arts and Letters, its functions, activities, and events, while also supporting the broader operation of the college across all departments and centers.

Strategic Objectives:

  1. Provide technical support services for College Event Series activities that are scheduled in College performing arts venues.
  2. Provide technical support services to special events and activities as well as recurring College events, as determined by the Dean of the College of Arts and Letters.
  3. Determine appropriate staffing support needs for all activities and events.
  4. Staff all activities and events.
  5. Manage College Event Series funding in support of all College events, but primarily those presented on campus in the performing arts venues.

Goal Area: Department Level

Goal Statement: A&L Productions provides technical, support, and staffing services to performing arts and related curricular activities of college departments and programs as part of the College Event Series, primarily presented on campus in college performing arts venues.

Strategic Objectives:

  1. Provide production support services to music, theatre, dance, musical and opera events, as formally scheduled in the College Event Series.
  2. Manage production shop areas (including, but not limited to scenic, props, costumes, lighting, audio, video) and budgets of related performance areas as provided by sponsoring departments or programs.
  3. Determine appropriate staffing support needs for all activities and events.
  4. Staff all activities and events.

Goal Area: Student Level

Goal Statement: A&L Productions supervises and manages student and student assistant access to college performing arts venues, including training on safe and appropriate usage of performing arts related equipment. Provides student access to college stock of costumes, props, furniture, and scenery for department or program approved curricular projects.

Strategic Objectives:

  1. Oversee a comprehensive safety training program that ensures all student volunteers and student employees who are assigned to support activities in the performing arts venues have the necessary skills and understanding to perform their assigned tasks safely.
  2. Determine appropriate supervision of the above.
  3. Ensure that the performing arts resources available to students are maintained and operated with safety as a number one priority in all cases.
  4. Provide students with access to items that may be borrowed for class projects, primarily from the college stock of costumes, props, furniture, and scenery.
  5. Provide individual mentorship of students in equipment usage and procedures of various theatrical shops with the expressed intent to supplement and expand upon formal coursework in technical production areas in the performing arts programs.
  6. Provide demonstration and technical support for classroom activities, as requested through the individual departments or programs.
  7. Train student assistants in professional stagehand work, both through event performance support and through production support of the various theatrical shops.

Goal Area: Facilities

Goal Statement: A&L Productions manages, services, maintains, and upgrades the college performing arts venues in support of the broader Arts & Letters academic goals as well as in support of curricular goals of departments and programs that use the performing arts venues. A&L Productions also provides technical support, maintenance, and advisement for other college facilities, as time and needs permit. Safe facilities and work practices are paramount.

Strategic Objectives:

  1. Oversee a comprehensive safety training program that includes periodic maintenance and documentation of the same.
  2. Manage all equipment assigned to the performing arts facilities in service to the academic goals of the College of Arts and Letters.
  3. Manage funding assigned to support of the performing arts venues and associated facilities.
  4. Recommend equipment, installations, systems design, and applications of all technology in the performing arts venues and associated facilities.
  5. Perform the above tasks in other college facilities as time and resources permit.

Goal Area: Patrons and Public

Goal Statement: A&L Productions presents the facilities and programs of the College of Arts and Letters through courteous, respectful, and helpful engagement with patrons and public visitors to campus events. Safe facilities and work practices are paramount.  

Strategic Objectives:

  1. Staff will present as the public face of the College of Arts and Letters and represent the College and the University accordingly.
  2. Observe and comply with all fire code regulations while supporting activities of public assembly.
  3. Oversee a comprehensive front-of-house training program, including house managers, ushers and box office staff.
  4. Determine appropriate staffing support needs for all activities and events.
  5. Staff all activities and events.
  6. Coordinate with other campus resources (such as those of Public Safety, Facilities Management, Custodial, et al.) to maintain an appropriate public presentation of venues and support areas.
