INTRODUCTION
Dr. Jamie Marsh is Associate Professor of Literacy Education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at California State University, Los Angeles. She teaches courses in the Multiple Subject Teaching Credential program and supports future educators in designing responsive, engaging, and reflective literacy instruction.
With a background in both elementary and secondary education, Dr. Marsh has taught English language arts and social studies and served as a K–12 literacy and instructional coach. She brings over 25 years of experience in education, including more than 15 years dedicated to supporting teachers through professional learning and university-based teacher preparation.
Dr. Marsh earned her Ph.D. in Education from the University of Virginia, where she studied students as writers using qualitative research methods—a focus that continues to shape her work today. Her research explores three primary areas: the writing processes of K–12 students, the instructional practices teachers use to support those processes, and the role of professional development in teacher education. Across her work, she is committed to bridging research and practice in ways that support meaningful writing instruction—and help both students and teachers experience the power and purpose of writing in their own lives.
