INTRODUCTION

I am an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science department at California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA). My preferred pronouns are she/her. I am passionate about teaching and research. The primary objective of my teaching is to empower my students to explore their curiosity, learn through experiencing and experimenting, and fulfill their potential. The overarching goal of my research is to create workable solutions that help bridge the gap between theoretical advancements in computer science and actual implementations that will improve our lives in tangible ways. My current research focuses on developing communication and data dissemination solutions applicable to emergent wireless systems, i.e., cyber-physical systems like drone swarms and vehicular ad-hoc networks. 

I am actively looking for undergraduate and graduate research students interested in conducting research in any of the areas listed in the 'Research' section below. TEACHING

I have taught/ am teaching the following courses at CSULA.

  • CS 3035 Programming Language Paradigms (Fall 2022, Spring 2023): Capabilities and styles of various programming languages, including imperative,  functional, and object-oriented languages.
     
  • CS 5035 Topics in Functional Programming (Spring 2023): Aspects of functional programming taught using the Kotlin language.
     
  • CS 2470 Fundamentals of Network Systems and Cybersecurity (Fall 2022): Study of network communication systems and cybersecurity, including computer network communications, Internet architecture, and cybersecurity fundamentals such as data, web, system, and network security. 
     
  • CS 5540 Special Topics in Internet-of-Things and Cyberphysical systems (new course being offered in Summer 2023). Email me if you want to know more about this course!

Before teaching at CSULA, I taught the following courses at Clemson University. 

  • CPSC 3600  Networks and Network Programming (Summer 2021 and Summer 2022) - Introduction to basic concepts of computer network technologies and network programming including network socket programming, layered protocol architectures, local and wide area networks, internetwork and intranetwork concepts, 

RESEARCH

My broad research interest is Software and Systems Engineering for emergent Internet-of-Things (IoT) systems. My current research focuses on swarms of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or drone swarm systems. In my current work, I am designing, implementing, and testing an evolving communication framework that drone swarms can use to support various data-intensive and performance-sensitive applications. The communication framework applies Named Data Networking (NDN) and extends it to support a distributed control plane capable of decision-making. I am interested in integrating emergent machine learning technologies into this communication framework to enhance the decision-making capabilities of the distributed control plane. Research areas of interest: Cyber-physical systems (CPS), Internet-of-Things (IoT), Named Data Networking (NDN), Emergent wireless technologies and protocols, Machine learning in computer networking, Machine learning for constrained devices, Edge computing, Cloud Computing, Security and Data Integrity in emergent wireless networks.
