Types of Aid

Financial Aid and Scholarships at Cal State L.A. is your main resource for questions related to funding your education.  We oversee the awarding and distribution of loans, grants, work-study funds, scholarships and coordination with external scholarships. 

Students are encouraged to complete their Financial Aid application and submit all required documentation by the priority document deadline.  Failure to provide the required documentation will prevent Financial Aid and Scholarships from awarding aid until all requested documentation is submitted. 

Grants

Eligibility for grants is based on financial need as determined by the information provided on the FAFSA or CADAA.  Review our grant information for more details. 

Student Employment

Work-Study is a need-based form of Financial Aid that you earn through employment. You will receive payment in the form of a paycheck.  Review our Work-Study information for more details. 

Scholarships

Scholarships are designed to reward, encourage, and assist students pursue academic excellence and leadership roles.  Additional criteria, such as campus or community activities, volunteer work, work experience, and financial need are considered during the selection process. As a continuing student, it is important for you to look for scholarships that can help reduce the amount you need to work and borrow to fund your education. New opportunities arise as you enter your major, take up new activities, or join college organizations. We encourage students to search for scholarships throughout their time at Cal State L.A. Loans

Cal State L.A. encourages students to exhaust all other forms of financial aid before applying for student loans.  Students whose total financial need cannot be met by grants, other campus-based aid or outside resources, may apply for student loans. Review our Loan information for more details.
