Application Process

student group by nature

To maintain eligibility for occupancy during the summer term, residents must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Be a matriculating student with a minimum of 3-credit units (undergraduate or graduate).
  • Employment by Cal State LA during the summer academic term.
  • Enrollment for 6 undergraduate units or 4 graduate units at Cal State LA in the preceding spring academic semester and the following fall academic semester.

Exceptions may be granted by the Director of Housing and Residence Life or a designee.

All continuing Cal State LA students are eligible to apply, except for May Intersession, which is only open to returning residents. A continuing student is enrolled full-time at Cal State LA for spring 2025.

A student may not be eligible for summer housing if they:

  • Have not submitted a completed online application and license agreement

  • Have not paid the $40 non-refundable application fee

  • Were not enrolled during the spring semester and are not enrolled for the upcoming fall semester

  • Are not in good financial standing with the University (e.g., outstanding balances or defaulted payment plans with the Collections Office)

  • Have conduct sanctions that permanently restrict them from living in on-campus Housing

If you apply for:

  • May Intersession, Session A, or Full Summer (Sessions A & B):
Your housing agreement will include the break between spring and summer or summer and fall.

  • Session B only:
You will not be eligible to stay during the break between spring and summer.

  • Housing will assign rooms for summer; there is no Room Selection process.

  • The entire process is completed online through the Housing Portal.

  • Students must submit a $40 non-refundable application fee with the Summer 2025 Housing Application and License Agreement.

  • The Medical Accommodation Request Process is outlined in the FAQ section below.

Summer Housing FAQ

For Current Residents

The Summer 2025 Housing License Agreement includes:

  • The break between spring and summer for residents starting May Intersession, Session A only, or Full Summer (Sessions A & B)

  • The break between summer and fall for residents with a qualifying summer contract

Students applying for Session B only are not eligible to stay during the spring-to-summer break.

Important Dates:

  • May 17, 2025 at 12 p.m.: Spring 2025 License Agreement ends.
All residents not staying for summer (or staying in Session B only) must move out and check out by this time.

  • May 20, 2025: Summer housing begins for May Intersession, Session A only, and Full Summer (Sessions A & B).
These residents may remain on campus during the break between spring and summer.

  • May 22, 2025: Transfer Day for approved summer residents.
Residents may stay in their spring room until this date.

  • May 23, 2025 at 2 p.m.: Deadline for all summer residents to complete their room transfer.

Note:

Students with Session B only contracts are not eligible to stay during the break between spring and summer.

The Summer 2025 Housing License Agreement includes the break between terms only for eligible sessions (May Intersession, Session A only, or Full Summer). It does not include early move-in for Session B only applicants.

Residents must request any changes to their summer stay by the cancellation deadline by emailing askhousing@calstatela.edu. The deadline is listed on the Important Dates & Deadlines page.

Housing will review the request and notify the resident of approval or denial. If approved, the resident is responsible for any difference in housing fees and must check in or out based on the new agreement start date.

Note: Moving in late or checking out early will not result in a fee adjustment. Housing fees are based on the full term selected in the Summer Housing License Agreement.

Once a student receives their summer 2025 housing assignment confirmation, fees will be posted to their student account.

To secure your space and live on campus this summer, you must pay your housing balance by Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 5 p.m.

Students must meet all eligibility requirements throughout the Summer Housing Application process.

Initial payments made while an outstanding balance exists will be applied to that balance and will not count as a summer Housing payment.

Housing and Residence Life reserves the right to cancel a resident’s application and room assignment if they:

  • Fail to make payments

  • Do not meet eligibility or enrollment requirements

  • Have conduct or sanction-related issues

Students must submit a License Agreement Cancellation Request Form through the Housing Portal by the official cancellation deadline, which allows for:

  • 5-day notice for most summer sessions

  • 30-day notice for Summer Session B Only

 View all important dates here

If approved, all fees—except the non-refundable $40 application fee—will be credited to the student’s account.

Late cancellations may result in:

  • A $50 cancellation fee if the form is submitted after the deadline

  • A prorated room charge if the required notice period is not met

Please refer to your Summer Housing License Agreement for complete details.

We have ADA-compliant units at Phase I, II and the Golden Eagle Apartments (GEA). If you require specific accommodations, please register with the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD).

For additional information regarding the application process please email them at OSD@calstatela.edu

Returning residents with a current OSD-approved Housing accommodation do not need to re-submit documentation. Accommodations on file for 2024–2025 or 2025–2026 will be considered for summer housing.

Please note: Regardless of accommodation needs, all students must meet Summer Housing Application deadlines to be eligible for placement.
